With the recent reveal of the 2nd Civil War trailer, I mentioned that the other thing I loved with it is that we finally get to see a bit more into the mysterious Black Panther, or T’challa played by Chadwick Boseman.
Some Civil War (comic) spoilers ahead, so if you don’t want to be spoiled by the discussion, I suggest you stop here.
What makes him so interesting is that in the original comic book version of Civil War, he allied himself with Captain America‘s side of the argument ever since Goliath was killed by Tony’s Thor clone during one major clash between the two forces.
He was even instrumental in their escape from the negative zone prior to the final fight between the two sides before Captain America’s *cough* Steve Rodgers’ surrender.
So here are the things we DO know of T’Challa based on the trailer:
His reason for joining Tony:
Since the Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn’t have a Goliath in their roster, it would seem that the explosion that T’chall finds himself in during a UN conference would spark his intent in joining the Iron Man side.
He’s bulletproof:
Ever since Iron Man 3, Wakanda has been known to have reserves of Vibranium, it’s no surprise that the king and protector of the nation will have an armor made out of it. As seen in the trailer:
It seems that getting hit by bullet’s doesn’t even make him flinch.
He can stand toe to toe with the best:
It’s already established during Winter Soldier that Bucky, or at least, the Winter Soldier is Russian’s hit man that even Captain America had difficulty dealing with (even prior to Rodgers finding out it was Bucky). It would seem that the trailer had Black Panther and Winter Soldier fight hand to hand and it seems that the Wakandan king is able to match the assassin and even have the Winter Soldier down a few times.
He’s faster than cap:
In one of the chase scenes in the trailer, we see T’Chall chasing after the Winter Soldier who’s on a bike with Captain America right after him. We see him being able to reach Bucky and even mess him up a bit. I’m not sure if this is because of his god-given abilities or of the advanced tech found in his suit. (Wakanda’s been known to have advanced tech in the comics though I’m not sure if that carries to the MCU).
He has his claws:
So while we’re at messing Bucky up, we can confirm that Black Panther at least retains his claws and is seen using them during the same chase scene I mentioned earlier and messes up Bucky’s ride.
So there you have it. Did I miss anything? Please do sound off in the comments!
