Arena of Valor World Cup 2019 Ushers In Newest Champion with Team Flash of Vietnam

The conclusion of the Arena of Valor World Cup (AWC) 2019 last July 13-14 had us get a new winning team for the region when the reigning champion, MAD Team of Chinese Taipei was dethroned by Vietnam’s Team Flash.

The Vietnam team was able to grasp victory after a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven grand final series. This marks a first in the professional league where a team was able to win on their home turf. Team Flash was able to take home an astounding 200,00 usd from the 500,000 usd prize pool and is the biggest AOV tournament to date.

Winning this tournament means a lot to my team and me, This is the first time that Vietnam is a world champion for AOV, and we hope this will be the first of many.

said Phạm “Gấu” Hồng Quân, Team Captain of Team Vietnam.

Team Flash also won the MVP award with their jungler, ADC, claiming the title and winning a 10,000 usd cash prize. ADC will also get his very own exclusive AWC 2019 FMVP skin. Aside from gaining MVP ADC was also among those named in the AWC 2019 Best Line Up award. The 5 players, who will share a total of 16,000 usd between them, are as follows:

  • DSL: TPE.Yuzon
  • JUG: VN.ADC
  • MID: VN.XB
  • ADL: THwc.NT
  • SUP: THwc.KSSA

Organized by Garena and Tencent Games, AWC 2019 was held at the Tien Son Sports Arena in Da Nang in Vietnam. As the first edition of the tournament to be held in Southeast Asia, a full house of fans came down to watch the tournament in person.

AWC 2019 was streamed live to fans worldwide, drawing a cumulative viewership (CV) figure of over 74.5 million with over 855,000 peak concurrent users (PCU) (Figures are derived from Garena’s official broadcasting platforms and are limited to regions Garena operates in, i.e. Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan). This represents an approximately 126% increase in CV and 36% increase in PCU from AWC 2018, highlighting AOV’s popularity as one of the region’s top mobile games and the community’s strong interest in its competitive esports scene.

New to AWC this year was the KOL Show Match, which saw two lucky members of the audience battle it out alongside famous influencers from Chinese Taipei, Thailand, and Vietnam. They got a preview of the new Battlefield 3.0 update, which introduces a new Magic Pattern system in addition to a refresh of the graphical and user interface. Battlefield 3.0 is now available on the Chinese Taipei, Thailand and Vietnam server, and will be rolled out to the Indonesia server later this month.
