You might’ve seen a friend or two on your social media timeline building a desktop or scouring for parts for their next build. You might’ve even asked yourself why don’t they just buy a pre-built one? There are pros and cons to building your own desktop computer. For one, you get to choose the parts that go into your machine and it’s relatively cheaper to source parts individually. It’s fun to build it and see it live once you get past the bootup screen. And if you ask them for advice, they will surely tell you to not buy pre-builts. But the thing about building your own desktop is, one, it’s tedious and you need to have a lot of patience, especially during these times where parts are scarce and demand is off the roof; and two, not everyone is tech-savvy to know what parts to get and if they’re, at all, compatible.
Getting a pre-built gives you the comfort of going home, unboxing it, and having it ready to go once you get everything plugged in. I built a few machines during this pandemic and I tell you, after you go shopping for parts, you just want to crawl into your bed and just call it a day. ASUS ROG Philippines recently announced the arrival of its ROG Strix gaming desktops. They come in 2 variants, the ROG Strix G35DX, and the G15DH. These machines are ready to boot up and get you fragging with tournament-ready performance. If you’re looking to get yourself a machine that can give you the flexibility from content creation to game streaming, then you better check what the ROG pre-built desktops can offer.
ROG Strix G35DX
Powered by the current 3rd generation of AMD Ryzen processors, you can have the G35DX configured up to a Ryzen 9 3950X which gives you 16 cores and 32 threads of processing prowess. With the 7nm technology that it runs on, you can expect power efficiency without sacrificing performance even when doing the most stressful CPU-heavy tasks. This is paired with a top of the line ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, giving you more headroom than you’ll ever need, except when running the latest Microsoft Flight Sim 2020, well, okay, I think it can run MFS2020 without a hitch.
The ROG Strix G35DX also features 2 hot-swap drive bays if you need to store large capacity hard disk drives. The chassis is easily opened with a spring-loaded door, providing easy access to internal parts if you need to do some upgrading/maintenance work. The CPU is cooled by an AIO liquid cooler, keeping your processor cool under load and gives you room to overclock your CPU when necessary. And with the latest Ryzen chips supporting PCIe 4.0, you can have blazing-fast storage and support for fast multi-GPU configs.
In terms of security, the G35DX is the first ROG system to feature the new Keystone II technology. Keystone is ASUS‘s propriety technology where you have a key which you can configure to let the system run in a specific mode according to your preference. It can also serve as a literal key to unlock a hidden shadow drive for your deepest, darkest, err… private files.
The chassis is designed to be moved around, but with the weight of the whole thing, I doubt that. But ASUS decided to design it that way anyway. It has a carrying handle strong enough to sustain forces of up to 30kg, which undoubtedly will make it easier to move around. It also has a hidden headphone hook to keep your space tidy and clean and can hold headsets up to 3kg. I don’t know which headsets weigh that much as I can’t imagine having 3kg of weight on your head while gaming.
The ROG G35DX comes in the following configurations:
G35DX-PH005T | R9-3950X | 32G | RTX 2080 Ti 11GD6 | 2TB + 1TB SSD | ₱219,995 | ROG Strix Flare Keyboard + ROG Gladius II Mouse |
G35DX-PH002T | R9-3900X | 16G | RTX 2070 SUPER 8GD6 | 2TB + 1TB SSD | ₱134,995 | Gaming Keyboard + Mouse |
G35DX-PH011T | R7-3700X | 8G X 2 | RTX 2060 SUPER 8GD6 | 1TB + 512G SSD | ₱109,995 | Gaming Keyboard + Mouse |
ROG Strix G15DH
If you prefer a more sleek and leaner desktop as you don’t have space for a G35DX, then you might consider it’s little brother, the G15DH. The G15DH can be configured up to an AMD Ryzen 7 3800X CPU, which is an 8-core, 16-thread processor, more than enough to handle your day-to-day activities. And can be paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER GPU that can easily handle today’s latest games and graphics-heavy workloads.
The chassis is designed to help cool your internals to ensure maximum performance without the worry of thermal throttling. The G15DH‘s chassis is a more compact version of the Wind Shear design of the G35DX which enhances airflow and provides efficient cooling. The main components, the CPU, GPU, motherboard, sit above a separate chamber, while the storage bays and power supply sits below. This dual-chamber configuration makes it easier to move air in components it needs it the most. The external vents also aides in channeling air and helps keep noise levels to under 35dB under full load.
The ROG Strix G15DH comes in the following configurations:
G15DH-PH014T | R5-3600X | 8G X 2 | RTX 2070 SUPER 8GD6 | 1TB + 512G SSD | ₱79,995 | Gaming Keyboard + Mouse |
G15DH-PH003T | R7-3800X | 8G | RTX 2060 SUPER 8GD6 | 1TB + 512G SSD | ₱79,995 | Gaming Keyboard + Mouse |
G15DH-PH002T | R7-3700X | 8G | GTX 1660 Ti 6GD6 | 1TB + 512G SSD | ₱69,995 | Gaming Keyboard + Mouse |
G15DH-PH005T | R5-3600X | 8G | GTX 1650 4GD5 | 1TB + 256G SSD | ₱49,995 | Gaming Keyboard + Mouse |
