Hilary Duff has confirmed her highly-anticipated Lizzie McGuire reboot will not be moving forward at Disney+ after various creative difficulties and changes throughout the past year.
The reboot, which was first confirmed in August 2019 with its original cast and crew, faced several disagreements on how it would approach the character’s adult life. Duff then asked Disney to move the show to Hulu as to not limit “the realities of a 30-year-old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating.” However, Disney disagreed.
After the announcement, several other cast members voiced their sadness and disappointment with the decision. Robert Carradine, Lizzie’s ‘dad,’ was ‘baffled’ by Disney suddenly deciding to take the reboot in a different direction. In an interview with Vice, he said ’25 executives’ approved the scripts in two separate read-throughs, and they were ‘laughing their asses off.’

Duff closes her post with a revision to her iconic line: ‘Hey now, this is what 2020s [sic] made of.’
